I see several posts from people asking how they can help during these times with a few extra $$$ to spend. Here is just one of many ideas.

#stepuptothetable is about helping local restaurants who are struggling during these times. I have seen numerous linkedin posts with videos where people challenge each other to step up to the table & buy meals & gift cards from their community restaurants. A great way for those of us who are more fortunate to support business & keep people employed.

Dont be a hardo, but that answer is the opposite problem. You should say something like you enjoy working on deals with high chance to close and big value creation for the client. Even some bs like that is better than what you said and it’s still the same message (getting paid)
While I understand where you are coming from and I think NOT everyone is meant to find their calling in their work (come on its IB so), it’s just a coffee chat and small talk. Don’t forget, every interaction is politics and nobody expects real answers from you. So put on your nice face, say that you like doing client facing or excel crunching or whatever bs it is and that’s it. I learnt it the hard way
Being paid in exchange for work doesn’t really set you apart.
But, the fact that you think it does makes it sound bad (maybe it hides a judgemental character?)
I like to think some people get paid to do something they like doing. I’m one of those.
I also hope the colleague was a peer and not a superior, especially if the like their job.
