Not at all. I’ve spent more than half of my career in-house, haven’t been at an agency for many years and just got a new agency gig. In the interview my corporate experience was specifically called out as a valuable asset.
Absolutely. I was hired at your level. Not sure what it’s like now, but it used to be very hard to break into agencies and I had given up on the idea until a recruiter reached out to me about a role. You’re way ahead of the game IMO. And yes I am happy about the agency and position!
If you’re looking at agencies with CPG clients is may be harder getting back into agency on the creative side.. they may think you’ve been out of the concepting game for a bit and need to work that back up.
If you’re looking at pharma then you may have a better chance. Having some client side experience can help even and especially at lower level roles where you’re learning all the FDA regulations for ads
Yes, that's what I've been a lil concerned about. Most of my agency-side background's in brand films and activations, but IMO client-side is less conceptual (even though that's what I used to do and love). Hope a recruiter would overlook that but figured they'd probably go with someone who's been doing that more actively.
Think about from the hiring persons perspective. If they are hiring for TV they will most likely go with a person that has been doing TV
Saw this belatedly. TY for the note! Some of the bigger name agencies and limited in-house teams I suppose? Although the contract I just wrapped and next one I'm interviewing for are all paid or organic social sooo...totally proves your point lol!
No. It does not hurt your chances, as long as you can demonstrate that your concepting skills are sharp and fast. If you are not getting lot of that at work, then you’ll have to push yourself in your own time, but you will have a full time gig & benefits in the meantime.
Just saw your response. Thank you for the POV! Made it through a couple rounds of interviews but did not get the gig, sad to say. Either way, keeping this in mind as I move forward! ❤️
