I mean…as a jr that’s a good thing to be included in meetings so you can listen and learn and be an active part of the larger project. It’s how you get opportunities and work for your book. The alternative is only being used to execute banners and social posts and left out of everything else. Everyone spends a good chunk of their day in meetings…it has nothing to do with whether you’re good or not.

Being good at writing is sort of the cost of entry for a copywriter. As a junior, it’s possible not much more is expected of you.
As you get more experience however, you’ll learn that you also have to plan your time (organizational meetings), know the product (product download meetings), take and sometimes question the brief (meetings with strat), sell your work (internal reviews, and client presentations), work with production to cost (nego meetings with prod) and produce your work (pre-pro, post prod meetings). Oh, and some social meetings are nice too so people get to know you and want to work with you.
Learn to value those meetings to get the most out of them. Or become an author.
If only the job were to create all day. It’s not. Not by a long shot.

I learned a lot by being in meetings with smart people.

Being good is relative to your level. You’re probably getting invited to meetings so you can learn to be good as a mid-level creative and beyond.
Those meetings are where your work will die if you aren't in them championing your ideas.
Someone needs to learn how the big bad world works..

How does being good makes you spend more time in meetings?
Means we value your input… I don’t always include my account juniors unless we think they have potential to learn or already have input we’d love to hear <3
LOL i agree with you that the way the system works is pretty counter-intuitive. i hope someday you’ll have a cushy perma-“senior copywriter” position where you don’t have to do any managing or politicking and can just do what you’re good at.
(as an aside: surprised people in the comments are like “har har looks like SOMEONE finally found out how the world works” as if we don’t live in an age where you’re more equipped to carve out your own ideal career path than ever, esp as a freelancer!!)
I feel the same 😩

As a junior I’d never considered myself good btw 🧐 it felt like I stil had to learn everything which I did

Yes, I agree. What is most important at that age (and any age really) is openness to learn. I liked to sit in meetings as a junior. Learned so much from hearing smart people talk about work.
