Omg that’s a huge jump if you teach high school! For me it’s 5th grade - I’m usually in 4th and idk what happens the summer between but the kids turn into monsters. My favorite is a 2/4 split!!
Ahh! I am a fifth grade teacher (I’ve also taught 6th) & I was moved to teach 4rth grade a few years back. One of my toughest challenges ever, I was so glad when I got to move back to 5th. It’s amazing how different the 2 years can be.
Rising Star
For a long time, I would've said middle school. Then I took a job at a middle school, and I'm kind of loving it.
Check out teaching certificate. if you don’t have an elementary Ed part on it check with your state to see if you are able to teach primary
I have Taught kindergarten preschool first for 38 years and love it, but it is not for everyone. It takes the right people to teach high school, middle school, intermediate elementary, primary elementary m wishing you the best.
middle and HS!!!
ANY elementary or preschool grade level is absolutely OUT for me, and my certification is for 6 (middle school in my district) through 12. I don’t even know what I would do with elementary age students. 🤯😱🤯😱😡🥺
🤣🤣🤣I would hate to be forced to teach HS English!
I cannot teach anything under 4th grade and even that is pushing it.
I would hate being forced to teach Grade 8 and the early years of high school— I actually prefer grades K-5 and really do enjoy 1st grade — OP, I’m sorry 1st grade is not your cup of tea and I wish you had a choice. Looks like assignments are strictly need-based
5th thru 12th, lol
At this point, 8th grade.
sounds like my ex husband lol i would suggest you do something you would enjoy like working with adults 🤷🏼♀️
Nothing lower than 5th.
Maybe you just need a new “school”, not a new “career”.
I would say kindergarten. Going younger is significantly harder when you are used to older. Even by a year or two year younger, it’s tough.
I also could never do high school or middle school. The attitudes and disrespect is why I tried to go younger. It seems to be getting worse each year and with even younger. No expectations
High School or Junior is worst ! I prefer Elementary
I've been teachers just 9 years, and im 63. I taught elementary for the first 4. I'll never go back and the emotions of middle is a no.

How is your district doing this? Do you have certification for elementary? I would be pretty upset by this too. I taught 3rd for two years, fifth for a year, and 6th ELA for twenty-seven years. I would not be happy about going back to the elementary building. They get the fewest resources and I hated block scheduling!
Why did they move you? That is so far removed from high school!
I’m K-12 certified. One year they got creative with our specialty staff schedules and I wound up with everything but MS (which I had the year before). One day each week I was in 3 of the 4 buildings. I learned I can be successful at each grade level if given the opportunity to focus on that level. Working with high caliber seniors then teaching K a half hour later with travel did NOT allow for my best effort. While I can do it all, I work best with the older kids. It takes too much of my energy to teach the younger. I’m old.
Btw - little kids are FAST! I turned sideways to walk to the other side of the room, took a step backwards, and stepped on a kid who had run out of her seat in the second row the moment I turned. She mentioned it years later when she graduated. “You stepped on me!” The teacher learned to look 360 before stepping anywhere with the little one.
I am an HS teacher and was told that I would be moved to teaching 5-6 grades. I quit, graciously and politely, but I still quit. The HS teacher that was given the middle school job also quit half way through the year. Not sure what the school was trying to accomplish, but it was a failure, for the teachers and the kids - which frankly are the more important people in the equation.
The district was trying to save your job by moving you someplace else or force you to quit. Maybe you were a tenured and could not be touched?
K-1 terrify me!
