I was waiting for my flight and was sitting next to a kid from my alma mater who had just graduated. All bright eyed and bushy tailed. Anyway, I had like 800 United PlusPoints so I upgraded him. Now he thinks I’m sort of god…

Honestly, if I ever met someone like you on my travels, I would probably never forget that moment for the rest of my life and try to pay it forward whenever I could.

20 years ago I was that kid. I had only $300 in my bank account and was on the flight to go to a job interview (final round). Make or break. I entered into conversation with a fellow passenger and learned he was an exec in that industry and that we played soccer for the same club growing up. He upgraded me to business and himself to the pilot’s cockpit.

I never forgot that gesture. That exec’s name? Albert Einstein.

We'll allow this humble brag 👏🏻

That was nice of you

That kid was me 15 years ago. I met someone from my school and he got me upgraded as well - that was the first time I flew in business class.

I have never forgotten that gesture. That kid won’t either.

What if you were... A consultant but only to consultants 🤯

That was a very nice thing to do. Way to go, making his day!!

Acts of kindness like this are rare OP, thanks for sharing! Gives me hope that it’s not all doom and gloom out there 😄

That's nice of you, but at the same time you were never going to use those plus points. I wouldn't consider it that charitable.

It's another case of the perception meaning more than anything.

likefunnyhelpful

McK1, different POV: maybe OP sharing this story will inspire and motivate others to do something like this for someone, donate to a good cause, etc.

I think that would be a benefit and potential positive externality from sharing. 🤷🏾‍♂️

finally some positive vibes on this platform....

If it ensures that the kid doesn't bug you for a job for the next three hours, it's well worth the 800 points

You've done an altruistic act, brilliant. Sharing altruistic acts you've done is egotistical and removes all altruism. We've all done good deeds, but I'm sad you're so insecure you need external validation.

likefunny

He just wanted to share. Why it bothers others so much what he did to a kid? Can’t you just say Well done and move on. Why you need to make the person feel bad sharing this???

Good on you. Keep on making people’s days.
Can you adopt me please?
Thanks
