When I transitioned 20 plus years ago, the big things that worked to my advantage were flexibility, adapting, prioritization, and teamwork. I think those traits still hold true today as I worked commercially, contracted for the military, and was even a federal employee. I've seen many younger people come and go, and the ones that stood out and were successful were the ones that had similar mindsets. Many younger people have the "what's in it for me" mentality which is good when working in the corporate world, but without appreciating a big picture, there are lots of bridges burned and few long term relationships built. All of my brothers and sisters in arms will always be family to me, and if needed, I could call for help in a second.
