I’d like to start freelancing. How do you price your designs? GIFs, posters, spec work?

Find out your hourly rate; stick to it. Estimate based on hours you’d spend. Never lower for anyone...unless their family. I tend to be a little nicer for the first few requests.

If you already have an established portfolio, pick your rate based on the hours you anticipate. But recognize you have to be aware of what the market will bear. Don’t get greedy starting out. You may need to lower your rate a bit to get the volume of examples you’ll need later to consistently win big. As your book improves and you have more and better work to prove you’re not a risk, bump your rate up and eat well

Currently at a NW of ~350k and have 125k in funds and around 70k in stocks, including ESPP. I’m fairly young (late 20s) and wondering if I should throw more into the stock market over the next few months or wait it out for a correction

Anyone struggling with imposter syndrome? When I worked for a very well known Fortune500 tech company I couldn't help but feel major imposter syndrome. One- I am a woman in a male dominated industry, I didn't go to a prestigious school like most of my peers and I just didn't think I deserved to be there. Everyday was a struggle and tried to keep myself small so no one would find out I was a "fraud." Looking back on it now, wiser and more experienced, I realized how detrimental feeling that way

Got assigned to manage a midweight who isn’t very helpful and now seems not to be very responsive. I actually need them to step up because the work to be done is enormous. Does anyone have any tips? Since I’ve only met them remotely, I don’t know if this is lack of skill, insecurity, or if they think they can get away with it bc they’re dealing with a freelancer.

Has anyone started an S-corp and later gone full time? Husband has been freelancing full time since last summer. Initially we thought it would be six months before converting to FT, but he’s been extended as an independent contractor until 2023. Ideally that sticks because he’s making north of $300k but he’s been hesitant to go S-corp in case they decide to make him convert. What happens to the S-corp in that scenario?

What’s the best way to negotiate more money during a contract to FTE conversion? My manager and I had the conversion convo today and he said he’d like to convert me immediately and took the action item to do so. In terms of comp he said they should already have what I’m expecting but I don’t think I communicated any FTE number to my contracting company. In this job market with all the layoffs, should I count my blessings and take what I can get or is there wiggle room.
