Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I feel like it depends on how far off your salary requirements are from what they’re initially offering. If it’s way off, I’d mention it off the bat to save yourself and the recruiter the time. If it’s close-ish, I think it’s worth asking if that’s negotiable after an impressive interview/screening. I’ve had positions offer more than their advertised range once I told them I was firm in my salary requirements, while others wrote back saying I was out of their price range but “best of luck.” I hope it works out in your favor!

Be open to the idea that you're worth more than they are willing to pay, and if so you need to move on to the next opportunity. Getting an offer doesn't mean that it's the right fit.

A quoted range is alway negotiable. I will rearrange my budget to get a top candidate and give a slight bump than the range.
Most companies won't go more than $5k over their range and unless you are a stellar candidate, I wouldn't push it too much. As soon as candidates do that, the 2nd runner up looks more attractive to the hiring team
While I'd like 8-10k over their range, I'd likely accept 5k due to the benefit package. Recruiter expressed concerns on the first screening as she advised she had a feeling my expectations were higher than their range so they are aware. They've been scrambling to rush me through the process to avoid me receiving and accepting an offer elsewhere in the meantime while going through the process. Which had also made me feel that I may have some better chances of getting the pay I feel is deserved.
