As a lifetime titanium with more than 1500 nights, I get asked for ID at a rate of about 0.5-1% of check ins. Certain things increase the chances of getting asked:
- Some countries seem more culturally likely to ask, notably Germany, Japan and South Korea in my experience, where I’ve each been asked more than once.
- If the hotel is sold out/oversold and you have a good rate.
- if you’re using a good corporate rate on a weekend or holiday and/or show up on a Friday or Saturday looking like you’re on vacation.
Sometimes it’s also random. If the property knows you well as a frequent visitor, you’re highly unlikely to get asked. If you get “caught” and can’t authenticate yourself as eligible for the rate, normally they’ll either charge you the “rack” (full) rate for your booked room type or allow you to cancel.
I’ve been asked before and say that I’m a subcontractor and was told to book at the said rate. Usually no questions asked.
Depends - I’ve been asked to verify my rate before... but like, once or twice out of the hundreds of hotels I’ve stayed at. I’m risk averse so I usually don’t just because I’d hate to be caught in a bad scenario where the rate has jumped from cheap to expensive (which I’ve seen)
I’ve never been asked to verify the KPMG rate but I also check in with the corporate card. I was thinking of just doing the mobile check-in to avoid the front desk altogether...
Have used both quite often in my 2000+ Bonvoy nights and never been asked for any ID. Once when using the IBM rate, I was asked how I liked working there, but no ID requested
Depends on where you are, I personally wouldn’t do it bc I don’t really know what I would do if I got caught. Been in NY for work for the last 10 months and I probably get asked at least once a month, and I have for sure been asked while abroad for ID
Yup I was asked for business card and lacking that, email proof (I.e they would send an email to my Accenture/Deloitte/company email address)
99.5% of the time, no.
They don't usually verify a thing other than your ID, especially if you have status. Worst case scenario you get charged your member rate.
You could always use the excuse that you're interviewing with said company. Not sure if they'd continue the ask for proof with that response.
GDY is generally the best rate, but they usually ask for a corporate id.
Like all above have said, generally you don’t get asked, but I have been getting asked more often lately - maybe 5 stays in q3/q4 last year asked
