It’s HR’s call, but you’d likely want to have a good reason theyd need to extend you through the break (eg project wrap up)
It’s really HR’s call D2. Partners are hardly consulted on when the term date is and HR managers can decide on their own if they want to term the employee the last working day before the holiday break.
Interesting! I had a 2nd year leave, no-one on the team knew he left until Monday. HR dropped the ball big time.
Im about to be that bitch, i cant wait
Do it after break and line up 2 weeks notice, most likely but it varies by team need.
When I left PwC a few years ago to go to Deloitte, turned in my laptop and was walked out by HR the same day, got paid for my 2 week notice though and PTO paid out
algorithms and automation, friends
the future
Who cares? If they let you go it’s on them
If you are let go, you will still get your 2 weeks paycheck.
In audit they’ve been having people stay 2 weeks even with going to a competitor recently

Can confirm. I had to work full 2 weeks when I left pwc about 3 weeks ago
if its a competitor the day u tell them will be ur last day. they will still pay out yr two weeks.
Generous firms - at my firm your last day can’t be a holiday or PTO. I start my new role on 1/3. Current firm shuts down 12/24-1/2. So 12/23 was the latest my last day could be. So all the hard work and extra hours I worked all year for the extended Christmas break were for nothing. So I’ll enjoy the time off between jobs but it will be without pay. It’s not the end of the world, but still frustrating because I feel like it was something I had already earned.
I am not sure about PWC but KPMG is closed from 24 through 2nd Jan so if you put your notice with end date as 3rd Jan, why won’t they make your last day as 24th December so they don’t have to pay you for holidays.
One of my colleague left and they asked them turn in computer on 23rd or 24th December. If you want to make sure that you are paid for holidays, I would either put in notice on 3rd of Jan or do it on 23rd of December and make my last day as January 7th.
Also, think about if staying few more days would make you eligible for 401K/HSA contributions. I know some companies do
Annual contributions and for those you have to be with firm on last day of the year.
Good luck 👍
Healthcare on beginning of month too 🔥
Unless there is urgency to join give your notice on Jan 2 or 3rd and enjoy paid holidays
Did you ever figure out if they’re even able to process your termination during the holiday shutdown? am in a similar situation but not going to competitor
I had to tell them I’m leaving to competitor before holiday shutdown and they let me go within a day. Lol
If they find out you’re going to a competitor it will be your last day!
Do you have to tell them? Lol
If I want 1/3 to be my last day, should I put in my notice on Monday 12/20 or Tue 12/21?
I put in notice this week and was hoping to have my last day in first week of January so my benefits would be active through the end of month. HR initially suggested just paying my two weeks and my termination date would have fallen during shutdown. She then actually asked if I was targeting January for the benefits reason and said they could make my termination date January 3 instead. I was surprised how willing she was to accommodate me.
I didn't have to work the 2 weeks leaving EY to go to PwC

How long ago was this? And was it to the same LoS? I had to stay my full 2 weeks when leaving to KPMG last month (audit to advisory tho)
Some of us in other network firms (read 'India') have notice period of 3 months.
