I‘d say top performer make more than the manager, mid and low performer less. A team of top performers and the leader will do pretty well.
yes, for a long time. you step back into management but then have the opportunity to become an executive
100%. If you’re unhappy with your pay, it’s not your direct report’s problem.
Even strictly base salary? I understand commission etc… but base?
No, base of an AM should be lower than a manager, assuming the AM is more leveraged in the comp plan. ie base/variable being 50/50 or 40/60 on the AM with the Mgr being 60/40 or 70/30
In sales, most definitely. An individual contribution can hit attainment levels a manager can’t reach. In fact the higher up the manager level the bigger the potential gap. I see some companies reward leaders with bonuses and stock to try and close the gap but a manger will never see 200% of plan.
My managers have hit 120% occasionally over the last 10 years but I have never seen over 115% at my level. The catch is that a manager will see 90-120% consistently, where an I.C. will see 75-300%…. Over 10 years it probably averages out pretty close.
Absolutely— the best reps will always make more money. If you don’t like it then go back into sales.
They make it up in equity
In sales....absolutely
