I’m not following. Why can’t you tell people you have an appointment/meeting/other obligation/whatever during those times you blocked off on your calendar? You have to develop a spine and protect your time because no one will do it for you.
Does your blocked time show you are available? I’d change that to unavailable in outlook so it looks like you’re in a meeting or something.
Block your own time off to do this deep work. Work is work. Thinking, organizing, strategizing all counts. And when I say “block it off”, I mean do whatever is needed to show that time as “busy/unavailable” on your calendar.
"Sorry, I'm not available at that time."
You have to calendar time to work on cases. Are you doing that?
Seems like you have the solution. Block the time on your calendar.
I am pretty firm on my calendar. There are days like today where I’m screwed and booked in meetings straight from 9-4:30, but on days where I have a packed schedule I’ll be aggressive and decline non-essential meetings. Some meetings can be an email and I’ll basically tell them that. If it’s like a VP, C-Suite, or my boss then obviously I have no choice, but I’m a Director and can reject a lot of people’s nonsense.

Block time on your calendar for whatever you need. No one knows unless you let them know & block time accordingly
