If a partner asks for an assignment “later this week”, is returning it at like 430pm on Friday late?

Thursday afternoon seems like it would have been right on target.

4:30 PM Friday is not technically late but it’s a little rude. You have to build in time for their review and whatever next steps, and sending something at 4:30 PM on a Friday that is time-sensitive means they have to look at it on Friday night or over the weekend.

That said, the work quality is the priority. If you did it as quickly as you reasonably could, and you got it done at 4:30 PM on Friday, that’s when you send it.

That being said, if you're a first year, don't sweat it. We've all done that.

You posted this question at 8pm on Friday. So im thinking this ship has sailed.

This is fine. If the partner needed it before, they would have reached out

Next time, just ping them on Wednesday and confirm if Friday is okay

Yes it's fine if you're good at your job. Partners should tell you a deadline of they want you to meet a deadline. Friday is later this week, so it's fine to assume the partner is telling you the truth when setting a deadline.

If you're bad or mediocre at your job or if there's something else - like you know the project is more time sensitive than the partner is indicating or the partner is notorious for moving up a deadline - this is a different story and clarifying the specifics is helpful.

There seems to be a weird assumption with some of these comments that this would require weekend work by the partner, but there's absolutely no way to know that. They could easily be planning to review on Monday

I mean, I’ve made it to fifth year interpreting that as the weekend… but only because I’m usually too busy to get it to them any sooner. When I’m not underwater, I’ll usually respond back to ambiguous deadlines like that with a fixed deadline.

like

“Later this week” is open for interpretation sooooooo it’s up to you to seek clarification, and keep partner in the loop of your timing. Friday at 4:30pm is technically “later this week” so it falls in the category, just not sure if that is what your partner actually meant.

Never ASSume anything because it only makes an …..

When did they give it to you? Monday? Wednesday? Need a little more context

The correct answer would’ve been to tell them you had the other work on the plate and asked them if Friday afternoon was ok. Whenever a junior takes a long time and I follow up and they say oh I got tied up I wish they would’ve just told me about the other work. I would rather do it myself than get it at 4:30 on a Friday if I assigned it Tuesday

I am trying to write a stock letter to send to parents everyday that their child does not come to virtual learning sessions. I have been told by administration that even though I have spoken to parents and know why students are not coming to zoom classes, that we still need to contact them everytime they dont come. For some of my students this is everyday due to parent work schedules and disability issues.

Thoughts on convincing gf to stay? 27M dating 28F for ~1.5 years. We knew each other in HS and reconnected during the pandemic. Everything was so connected, compatible and hot, and we planned a life together. We thought we met the loves of our lives. We moved to NYC in January. Lost intimacy and connection. She’s unwilling to work on things. Such a genuinely talented and beautiful woman, but has trust issues and depression from being overworked. Thoughts on convincing vs surrendering / leaving?

We have motion sensor lights in my office and the sensor is far from my desk. Consequently, if I'm on a long WebEx, the lights go out and it's embarrassing. The building won't change the sensor. Anyone find a solution for this (aside from standing up and moving, which would be very awkward)? I can't rearrange my office.

Hello everyone!
I recently found out that I was being paid less than everyone in the team (more than 25% gap to more expe teammates, around 15% less than new hires)
We all had the same responsibilities, I consider I even had a heavier workload (talking in past tense since I very recently made an internal move).
Things to consider:
On a work visa
Non-white
Non-male
What would you recommend doing?
Keeping it to myself?
Speaking up? How? With who?

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
