$50k isn’t enough for a down payment AND furnishings for a short term rental. Plus with many international travelers choosing not to visit the US and many Americans worried about a recession, travel and tourism in the US has a very poor outlook for the next year or two. That’s not even addressing the fact that many short term rental markets have been facing increasing regulation and saturation which makes it significantly harder to become a new host.
I actually just came into that for my bonus after taxes. I put it highest yield savings account. I could find until I figure out what I will do with it. I don’t think I would do an investment in an Airbnb right now because of all the restrictions. I also think it will depend on where you live if you can buy something to rent that would be in a nice enough neighborhood not to cause your headaches.
real estate is all about location so if the numbers work out then do it, otherwise stock market is fine.

Index funds. Real estate is much more of a business than an investment, and I think it’s hard to justify as a one off investment

I would find a good multi-family unit such as a duplex or a quad Plex and purchase it and rent it out. Multi-family units are always your best investment for roi.
