I just got back from Japan. Man is the transportation insane. Literally moves like 20 million ppl a day.

Here we can't even get down the block 🤣🤣

It’s simply not feasible due to the population size. There isn’t enough demand to justify building an expensive public transit system. When you compare it to places like Japan, New York, London, or Singapore, they have the population density to support and benefit from an efficient system. The same logic applies to train routes within Canada — there’s no sufficient reason to invest in frequent service. It’s more cost-effective to have expensive tickets for occasional trips rather than running empty trains daily.

This is the usual rationale that corporate apologists like "not enough demand..can't justify the investment".

Toronto isn't really a spread out city. Two major highways but one is "pay for play" like a private highway. The other one is choked at all hours of the day. Driving into downtown is a nightmare. You think people like to be sitting in their cars for upto 2 hours a day ? Case in point - have you even looked at Go Trains and how many folks cram into them

401 etc

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

New to Toronto, moved to the west end of town/ just past - in Etobicoke. I celebrate my 40th a few days after NYE/NYD - would love some recommendations on moderately priced but nice ambiance restaurants for myself + husband, and my extended family. Everyone is scattered throughout (Hamilton, Barrie, Lyle, Newmarket, North York). Don’t want anything too fancy but don’t really know where or what is good and not downtown.

Any recommendations? (Open to GTA of course).

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?
