Usually yes. Companies are likely to offer severance in exchange for signing something that reduces the risk the employee will sue for bad work conditions, harassment or unfair firing.
No, if you were let go on PIP you weren’t let go, you were fired for cause.
Some companies may, but I would say it’s an exception, not the rule
D3 I think resorting to invective / ad-hominem says more about your maturity / self esteem than anything
If you’re placed on a PIP, start job hunting immediately. Your odds of coming off that PIP are low and your odds of severance are even lower.
9 times out of 10, they’ve already decided they want you gone. The PIP is just covering their ass.
No, not for PIP
We have no acrued PTOs, how long ago was this??
Hard to believe that with your stated performance you were let go…. Seems more political probably
Yes at Strategy&
In NY, you can't get denied due to technical poor performance. It has to be more of a misconduct situation. Hence, never acquiesce to any review/feedback that hints as misconduct in disguise!
how do you refuse to accept such feedback or review
Most / all separations in a professional environment include severance. Even, at times, for cause. Every separation I have seen in consulting, whether HC reduction or performance related, has included severance.
Not my experience. Fired after PIP - given the option to quit instead of go through PIP. I did the PIP and collected a paycheck for one more month since I knew they already made up their mind!
All responses need to provide the State and company. Otherwise it doesn’t really help.
A pip or performance improvement plan is just that. Now if you are a person with a bad attitude and you are not meeting performance expectations then you may need to seek employment elsewhere where you are a better fit. The worse type of employee is an employee that does not work well with others. Employers are ofter willing to work with employees that are 1. Coachable and 2. Have a good attitude. A pip is made to ensure you are giving 100% in most cases but they can also be used to get rid of bad fit for the company. If you are let go of you can lose severance. It is possible to speak with HR to ask if they will offer severance if you decide to resign. Good luck!
