1. something else. 2. not advertising/marketing.
Subject Expert
Yea i feel like design/creative work within advertising and marketing can become such a draining profession. I've worked tangentially around creatives in that space and it can be fun but at the same time can seem so restrictive and meaningless at times. That coupled with the working conditions just seems not ideal
I would pick something else.
Subject Expert
Any specifics on what you would choose separate from design/creative work? Would you want to be totally removed from a creative aspect in the workplace?
I actually think I would stick to it, but I would definitely become fluent in AI practices. With all the apps out these days, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm concerned about my job security in the future.
Subject Expert
That's such a good thing that you want to stick to it though. The good thing about that second part about AI practices is that it's still early days and you have enough opportunity to catch up in terms of leveraging it
Always the creative! The only thing I could do differently is the freelance jobs I've had. If I had gotten them sooner, I could have gained a lot more experience earlier.
Subject Expert
That's fair! On the freelance part, do you feel like you just didn't start it early enough so you missed out on timing to get even more experience earlier on or do you think you would've run into issues with gaining clientele early?
Beware of favoritism, if there is no runway for promotion do what’s best for yourself and leave. If they don’t value you. Someone else will. If you’re not of a certain “race or ethnicity” the cards are stacked against you in this industry. They will pigeonhole you to where they “think” you belong
Subject Expert
I feel like this response might've been for another post in the bowl. Although I do think that favoritism can play a role in the work place at times, not quite sure how that fits into the aspect of the career path you potentially want to take
1. Still design; 2. Avoid big ad agencies and start my career in smaller design shops that actually value design
Subject Expert
Oof yea I agree with you on working at agencies especially big ones. There are definitely some pros to it but there are also so many negatives and you can always move up to them. Working in a smaller agency where design is valued seems like a much more enjoyable time especially for the start of your career
I’d probably choose to start an over as a web designer or something related to IT. I’d still like to stick to designing.
Subject Expert
That's good that you still would stick to designing! Is there any possibility for you to transition more into that web design/IT type of role?
The answer better be yes, I would like to design better systems that aren't deception. Because, we tried that and tanked engagment across the board and created a layer of resistance.
Super niche field. Wealthy white folks. Medical experiments and human DNA modifications.
That's 100% Nazi shit
