The market is a bit crazy right now. Don’t take it personal
Hasn’t it been like this for years now? Every time I see a post like this, since about 2022, it’s been “the market is just bad right now.”
What sort of firms are you targeting?
A lot of AM100 junior litigators of your vintage won’t have substantive experience. They’re at the point where trial boutiques dangle the opportunity for reps in front of them.
A lot of civil litigation shops need bodies and aren’t going to be overly discriminatory.
Do you mean do have substantive experience? At this point most of the rising 3rd years at my firm have considerable experience with drafting, running discovery and second chairing deps. Plenty have even taken deps on smaller cases/for less important witnesses.
OP would be in way over their head.

It can absolutely be done, but you’ll almost certainly take a class year cut or two. Would totally be worth it, IMO. Get a good recruiter and be ready to be patient. Its possible you may need to wait and essentially be slotted in with c/o ‘26 when they start
Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that. It’s not something you’d bring up - the firm or recruiter will generally make it clear that you’d be coming on as a later class year.
In situations where recruiters have said that to you, I’d push back and maybe throw out the class year thing. I guess it also depends on what area you want to switch to? Is it corporate adjacent, or at least transactional? I imagine you’d probably need to clerk to switch to lit at this point if you’re pretty senior.
And also, tbh, talk to other recruiters. If one is writing you of, f’ them and find someone else who will advocate for you
