No brainer. The RN will tick that box for so many jobs that it’s a baseline requirement for and most of us hiring are going to see that plus your years as an LPN as more than ample experience… Also I’d you are looking for a “chill part time RN role” there are so many non Med surg and even non bedside options. The best nurse I have ever worked with is an LPN and not having that RN is the only thing holding her back from so much. Do it. And don’t doubt yourself!
There is no such thing as too old. Your experience is amazing and you will open up so many opportunities for yourself!
I agree…. Go for it! So many more roles will open with a RN behind your name. Even if you’re heading into retirement, there are many jobs that you could do per diem or part-time remotely if you have your RN. You’ll still be able to draw on all your experience as an LPN which makes you very valuable but you’ll have the license that is needed to open many more doors.
Free? Age is a number!! Nursing is one of the few professions where age is not a real factor. Yes, there is ageism unfortunately l, like any other discriminatory practices. However do not let that deter YOU from seeking education! If an establishment offered me a free DNP!!! I am there! I hate writing papers, but it would only enhance my career and knowledge!!! You got this!!!
We WISH You The Best ENJOY This Well Deserved Opportunity …… We will Follow
There is no catch! Age is irrelevant!! You are never too old to learn. I became an LPN at 27, RN @33, and an NP at 49 yo. FREE? I am 58 yo and if someone offer me to get a DNP I am there!!!
I would definitely do it if it is free. Sure it might be challenging but you can do anything you set your mind to. I think you would regret not doing it if you didn't follow through with it.
Don’t let the Age # Discourage you…… people Can’t Replace the “years and Hours at the Bedside We Have Witnessed! Those Lessons are Firmly Implanted in Our Brains… You Will Be an Asset to Your unit ! A degree is Essential to fill in the gaps ( for many Clinical situations you have witnessed…)
I must add .you will have an inside Front Seat… Remember Your First Cardiac Arrest??
Did Someone Tell You To Run for the CODE Cart??
Ahhh Moments We Never Forget!
You’re TURN Now!
Go For it. LVN means nothing these days, you will be completing with every MA that is cheaper to hire. Your never too old as long as you know how to work your resume and no how to interview which anyone can learn online these days. Get your RN and go the extra mile right away for the BSN.
62 is not old. It's a no-brainer. Stop overthinking it and do it!

I'm 64, and have considered going back to school for my BSN. Not that I really want to go back to school, but I think that is what has hindered me in finding one of those "chill part time" jobs. If my life wasn't so complicated..... Anyways, I went back to school when I hit 40 for my ADN. It's never too late. And reading other comments gives me hope of finding something. My background is in psychiatric and geriatric nursing.
