Jumping in with curiosity works best. I’ll ask a ton of questions, even the small ones, and try to learn the team’s flow instead of forcing my own way in. It shows respect for how they already work and makes it easier to earn trust.
Remember you don't have to prove yourself in the first week. First impressions are very important but sitting back, answering questions and being a team player is better than being a show off
I found that joining in on the casual conversations was just as important as showing I could handle the work. Even small chats in the newsroom built trust and made collaboration during breaking stories feel smoother.
Just keep it chill and ask questions! People are naturally going to include the ‘new person’ and if they end up purposely excluding you then maybe they aren’t the team you want to work with anyway
