I’m a third-year associate with an Am Law 200, doing mostly transactional corporate/M&A work. I took the job right out of law school after working at the firm as a summer associate, but my goal has always been to move to a position with more litigation work. I've learned that there aren’t any litigation opportunities within my firm, so I'm looking for positions elsewhere. Any advice on next steps to make this transition and what the market might be like for a junior associate with my experience?

Litigation can be fun, but be aware that pretty much the only path to success is your ability to generate clients. You can be the best litigator in the world, but if that phone isn’t ringing with new cases coming in, you’ve got a big problem. I would be sure you’re okay with that before you make the jump.

Hi all - just joining and looking for some guidance! I am currently in an IT internship position (making pretty solid money considering) and following this summer I will stay on part time during my senior year (discussing a full-time job offer after already). I’m getting my computer science degree, so I would like to do something more technical in the workplace when I graduate. How do I advocate myself for that to my manager without sounding unappreciative of the position I’m in?

Will companies be willing to train me more due to the current job market & being female?
