I’m 64 and can say there is age discrimination in hiring older nurses. We have experience and expect a wage which reflects this. Companies, clinics and hospitals would rather hire a new or less experienced nurse because it saves them money.
Try school nursing! I worked at an Exceptional Center for 3 years! I loved it!
School nursing? Really! All a kid has to do is say “ she pulled my arm” ie on a field trip— the school does not back you— even w no evidence. If you want to be under scrutiny all the time — then go for it. All u hve to do is have a pulse to work in FWISD.
Today's case management is not like the old days where every exhausted nurse went to ride out until retirement. There are KPI's, high technology skills needed, depending on the environment so much pressure around quality metrics- it is rough matter where you are these days.
Case management, telehealth companies, or even a health coach or patient education could all be great moves. You bring a lot of hands-on experience and can absolutely understand wanting something a bit less physically demanding. I’ll be celebrating 50 later this year and already considering what should be next.

It pays more and gives you a break from the monotony of the daily routine.
After so many years at the bedside, that’s completely understandable. Many experienced nurses transition into case management, telehealth triage, or utilization review, which involve much more sitting and often even remote work. Your experience is a big advantage for those roles.
