I’m an in-house counsel in Boston making $190k. I’ve been with the same company for four years, and my salary has only moved about 3% annually. I know I could probably get $230k+ if I jumped to a competitor, but I love my manager and the 40-hour weeks. Is it time to jump? Is an extra $40k worth the risk of a toxic new culture?

I would not leave a job you love with those kind of hours and decent people for 40k. Thats what? 30k most after taxes? Heck no I would not leave.

If you like your manager, the culture of the company, and your hours and team. It’s not worth risking the higher pay for possible bad situation. I would ask for a raise. Do some research on what other companies are paying and present it with your request. In my experience, managers that I’ve had a good relationship with, I’ve been able to have frank off the record conversations about pay. They’ve all told me to write something up so they can present it to the higher ups. You might not get 40k but probably enough to keep you happy and not leave.

I’d stay. You have a good gig. Keep looking if you want a bump, but I’d want a much bigger bump to risk a known, good arrangement for who knows what on the other side…

What are the benefits like? PTO, incentives (cash bonus, options, etc), WFH policy?

I'd stay. Stability is not a bad thing to have, especially when that comes with a reasonable work life balance. I can't imagine uncertainty and more stress would be worth the salary difference.

Is there a risk of accepting a role with Upstart currently? I seen a 7% layoff recently for hourly employees but I would be salaried. I am well aware it’s a risk in tech overall right now but curious on thoughts thanks!

One key selling point, as they are trying to offer is the opportunity to work one day a week to use for things like training, acquiring certifications or building applications that you are interested in.

This sounds amazing. I don't get that at my current job. So, is this too good to be true? I would like your opinion on this.

Hey beautiful people,
I’m 27Y and work in tech. Unfortunately my carpal tunnel is getting worst slowly. I’m worry that I still have like 45 years more to be retired and can’t stop working because I have a f* mortgage to pay 😭 I have a super ergonomic workstation, but I know my hand needs a long rest, and I can’t do it… Does anyone relate? What do you recommend?
