This is an insane ask. The structure is heavily industry-dependent.
Like the first commenter said, it’d depend entirely on the industry. I’d seek outside counsel to get insight.
There are literally books on this if you want to learn. However agree it’s a big ask.
What books would you recommend?
My company didn’t have a separate Compliance group. It was all just under Legal. Instead, there were individuals or groups that handled specific parts. Privacy, import/export, government contracts, each had a specific attorney and maybe staff working on it. We were design and manufacturing, though. Banks tend to have a dedicated Compliance group, but I understand Finance companies have their own special set of rules that need followed.
This is a great question for AI. Tell it about your company and industry and org structure and ask for potential structures and focuses. Keep in mind nobody wants you to come back and say you want to hire like five people. What they're really looking for is you to say how existing teams can do this job.
Thanks. Yea, that's what I ended up doing yesterday and connecting each compliance area to a current team except for hiring a DPO.
