I’m burned out AF. The toxic environment/contracts, current events, and years of overworking have caught up with me. I need to pivot out of consulting even in this flooded market. What should I look into next? I have experience with PM, business process improvement, and transformation work. Flexibility and a good environment are needed. Help!

Have you thought about customer success or solution consultant at tech companies?

Thank you!

Project Management can be consulting unless you move into the private sector, like Google, Meta, etc. Consulting is BRUTAL right now in the federal space but if you look into non-federal opportunities, they are there. You might just need to go directly to their websites to see what's available.

In this market, I would recommend keeping your options open as there are millions of Americans out of work right now.

I know it’s not the ideal time to move, but for my sanity I need to. I am always open to ideas and suggestions. I am ready to leave consulting.

Is leaving consulting as a senior, with 2 YOE, too soon? When is a “good” time to exit, in your opinion? I ask because I’ve heard senior is good, and I’ve heard manager is the latest you should stay before diminishing exit returns (anecdotal)

I'm two thirds through the PMA Core Certification, and the info is great but the tests are a joke. They need to contract with an educator that specializes in testing and assessment to come in and develop exams that actually measure if you know the material. The bad test design devalues the certification. Not to zero, but I definitely will not be proud to have earned it. It just means I had $1300 and sat through 15 hours of video lectures.

NJ office: no NYC tax, don't have to file 2 state return. Live in NJ so auto assigned to NJ office currently.

NYC office: NYC tax on paycheck, easier commute, possibly higher pay?

Been asked by a client to apply for a GS14 term position but I have a few questions/concerns.
1. Current salary is 140K with ~10K variable comp. If I wanted to at least match, it would require me to be in Step 5/6— is that possible/likely or would I have to start at Step 1?
2. How often have you seen term positions converted to permanent? I’m considering turning this offer down due to this.
