Congrats on your pregnancy! If this isn’t the most accurate and succinct description of what it’s like to work a corporate job I don’t know what is.
There’s definitely a gap in practice here. Maybe the team declined it because it can be annoying to have other people’s availability blocks cluttering up their calendar? But you can/should also put a block on your own calendar during those times indicating you’re OOO, which should then let your status show as unavailable and autoreply as needed.

Weird but I feel like people don’t like it on their calendar in the middle of the day, I have done the “all day” reminders where it sits at the top and say “X APPT 10am -11am”
I do a time block but not longer than 2 hours, because my team works in 3 different time zones
I don’t like having other peoples stuff on my calendar. I already have too many meetings booked. Just throw on a status/auto reply and make sure your boss/direct report knows. Everyone else can f*** off, you’re literally creating life.
Recently informed my team thinks it’s annoying when the whole time is blocked. Can do a 15 min block then block personal calendar. I’ve had it happen too despite free and optional.

Also, if they do put you in a meeting when you are already booked for a doctor’s appointment just decline that meeting with an explanation.
It’s usually client or other agency meetings, I’m fine if internally I decline, but if we have meetings with partners or clients that’s why I throw on the block, then still get pinged because I’m not in the call and other agencies/clients have questions. Then my team is like.. where you at?” …
You have to do 2 invites. The Free one, and then one that books the hours as busy. You don’t send out the second one.
