I’m doing PI. I got approached to go into the workers compensation department in my firm (petitioners side). Any advice on pros and cons of each?

Workers’ compensation is very different from PI work. So there will be a learning curve. It’s also very high volume. I’m not familiar with the Applicants side of WC, but on the defense side it is not unusual to have 80-100 files. Work/life balance is easier to achieve in WC than civil because there isn’t discovery and hard deadlines (for the most part). So that is definitely a pro.

Have any of you started a PLLC for a solo practice? If so, what was the process for getting your firm to become a PLLC in Illinois. Did you file for an llc first then file a cert with the Supreme Court. PLLC filings for IL do not list attorneys as a professional group.

Any word on how the increasing positivity rates are going to affect the court openings and trials in Cook County? I know that some civil trials were being conducted and there was talk about opening more courtrooms. But that was before the sudden spike in positive tests.

I thought I would ask this here too because some of you may spend a lot of time at the Daley center and I’m dying to know the answer to this pressing concern.

The tree at the NW corner of Dearborn and Washington at Daley Center. WHY is it always covered with thousands of birds. I could walk across the loop and not see a single bird but when I get to DCP, every day, rain or shine or heat or cold, thousands of birds. What is up with this tree? Why is it special?

Does anyone have advice on the hours typically worked at CFGI? I'm currently in a senior manager role with the expectation to be TMD in the next two years - however, given staffing issues and the politics of the firm, I'm looking for a switch.

In addition, as a non-audit accounting firm, do former big 4 employees working at CFGI pick back up their investments and are no longer restricted?

I look forward to any input CFGI employees may have. Thanks!
