I’m helping my GF with excel and need help lol. She works at a hospital and is trying to make an excel schedule for doctors to reserve rooms. She wants drop downs for days of the week (column K) and also different drop down menus in column P for the reserved time slots.

Is it possible to do this with two sets of drop downs (days of week + time slots) and not use index match here? She could make 5 tables for each day of the week, but prefers one table that can be easily navigated by doctors.

Ignoring your specific questions and adding my 2 cents instead....google room reservation template or alternatively, if not meeting your needs you could consider an app for restaurant table reservations. This is def something that has already been done many times so instead of reinventing the wheel you should at least see if you can leverage some work you find online and tailor it to your needs!

This. Duh.

Yes you can do it with liberal use of named ranges and the INDIRECT function.

like

Just input a reference variable (patient) in Col A with a related value (time) in Col B. The INDIRECT will then pull B as per A.

There isn’t enough Info here to answer your question. Namely, what the end goal os

like

INDIRECT / IF MATCH THEN VAL, or multiple DV drop-downs pulling from a separate tab

Indirect essentially applies a cell’s output as a cell reference. It’s essentially a way to call another cell with ease - for example if a cell ‘Sheet2!B2’ contains (‘Sheet1!A1’), indirect will reference A1 from Sheet 2. This is beneficial because you can index match on values called from another cell (in a faster fashion if that makes sense). Hope this was more helpful.

This seems like a pretty straightforward application for Names Ranges or am I missing something. You shouldn’t need INDIRECT or really any formula

I’d avoid something like indirect anyway, it’s volatile and if anything breaks no one at the hospital will have any idea how to fix it
