You’d be insane to move from industry to big 4 without a significant compensation increase
I mean, this is certainly the prevailing line, but plenty of people aren't happy with industry. I wasnt.
You'll likely be taking on a lot more work, so you should be looking at an increase in pay. If you're interviewing and anticipating a pay cut, that doesn't seem like much of a strategy. If you're not going to get a bump in compensation there's really no point to making the move.
For sure will be more work
You may need to clarify what kind of role you are consider moving from to get a meaningful response. That said, you are going to be working a ton more for at best a small increase in pay.
Agreed
It honestly depends on the role and location. I wouldn't take a pay cut to move though. I would definitely try to negotiate a salary that is equal or more than what you are making now.
Same I wouldn’t take a pay cut to go into public
I am going to be devils advocate here. If you are moving from industry and your experience puts you at a lower title/skill set, I don’t see it unreasonable for them to give a pay cut. Now that pay cut should be very small but I definitely see people going to big4 from anywhere (industry/midsize) offered lower positions. Now your timeline to recoup and exceed should be fairly small and so depending on why you’re going to big4, you should consider the value you get from it on your resume. Otherwise you can get stuck in industry. Especially if you are not coming from a large public company
