I'm left handed and my handwriting is pretty awful. The cooks keep saying they can't read my tickets. I'm worried I will get fired if they keep complaining. Do you think it would be better if I took my time and rewrote the tickets before handing them to the cooks? We're a fast paced diner, but I'm not sure what else to do.

Tickets are usually like shorthand…abbreviate in CAPS to avoid issues. Also, even as a busy diner, a proper POS system should eliminate any one else seeing your tickets. This is what Point Of Sale systems were created for! ….to eliminate poor penmanship, and incorrect ordering. Allows kitchen to see all orders uniformly and clearly.

You're not going to get fired over this alone. Still worth figuring out how to improve though. I wouldn't bother rewriting, just take your time in the first place. Customers aren't going to be bothered by you standing there another 30 seconds.

I’m a lefty too. But luckily for me we write out the tickets, then we go to the computer and enter our order. So no one but me has to read my handwriting.

Yea nothing wrong with rewriting and repeating orders to your guest.

waiting on a final written offer, messaged the recruiter yesterday but received an automatic reply stating she won’t be back until tomorrow. Email stated to reach out to another recruiter for immediate assistance so I did. I emailed her , she said these offers do take some days because of the Hr and HM has to sign it. Once that happens my recruiter should send me the offer. Either on the day she comes back, but by the end of the week. I am going stir crazy, I really hate my current job. Help…

Had an offer for 30% more , a promotion to manager, extra week of vacation to switch firms. I love where I am at with my clients and there is a lot of potential there. Should I stay the course?

Went in to check compare sizes for an Aqua Terra (green dial) but now torn between that and Moonwatch Sapphire (manual wind but the case in the back is just 😍)

Surprisingly the Moonwatch felt smaller (even though it’s 42mm vs 41mm Aqua terra) but I’m not sure about the manual wind tbh - worried I’d break it

This is going to be my main watch for the next 20+ years so I want to make sure I pick correctly!

What would you pick and why?

My pie day pie (belated!) Ina Garten’s chocolate banana cream recipe. My first time ever making a pudding. I have to say it was amazing to go from muttering “oh shit” for a solid 20 minutes of mixing the eggs/milk too aggressively into a foam and finally seeing it condense into pudding. Deffo recommend trying it!

Do you think culinary school is worth it? I've been a waiter for a year but really want to be a chef. The people I work with say to just start in the kitchen and work my way up but I think culinary school might get me where I want to be faster. The cost is pretty insane though. Any advice?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
