It’s been a hot minute. Thai Basil Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Hoisin Sauce (Keto). My pre-covid work clothes are now loose on me. I’ll have to buy a new work wardrobe wherever that may be. I quit my job and am back in school. Goodbye tax, goodbye busy seasons, goodbye billable hours.. 😁

Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. Is that normal?! If so, I'm going to have to totally rethink my life goals.

A guy I work with would ask me to go to his hotel room when we’re on a out of town client, and another guy would send me inappropriate snapchats. I drank with my manager and almost reported them.

Has anyone flown frontier since Covid? How was the experience and did it seem safe?

I am on an engagement that has 2 managers. I enjoy working with 1 manager. He is very understanding and provides feedback/guidance. However, the other belittles me. She is constantly asking “why” and even when I am not sure of the response she keeps pressuring. She provides no actual information for me to learn from. Not sure if I should correct her on how she should speak to me. Or if I should jump ship & ask not to be on this engagement. still new so i am not stuck on this team yet.

This might be controversial but I work with several older Black folks, and it's from that I've experienced the most criticism or judgment at work. I think it's probably coming from a good placed and from their lived experiences at the firm, but it's discouraging. Not the case for everyone, but it's happened more than once where I work.

Is it reasonable to be expected to spend 20-30 non-billable hours a month checking your paralegal’s work? (i.e. summarizing hundreds of records and bills). The partner said he “didn’t use paralegals” at his previous firm and eating the time is an “investment in yourself.” Is this common?

I am doing UXR interviews, and although I read that a background in design isn’t necessary for UXR, I have been asked a few times now whether I have experience in design and can use design apps. I have applied research experience and a solid understanding of product development, which I think should land me a UXR role one day, but I’d to hear any thoughts though if you think design knowledge is necessary for UXR?

I don’t see much middle eastern food on here - this is garniyarikh, a Turkish dish made by frying up eggplants, stuffing with browned ground beef and baking for 30-40 mins. I add smoked paprika to the beef which isn’t traditional but gives it a great flavor.

I’m a first year associate at a Big Law firm. Most of my assignments have been research memos and summary emails. I enjoy research but the questions asked are never obvious and the answer is usually nuanced, unclear, or the perfect case just doesn’t exist. As a result, it usually takes me a while to craft an answer that I feel confident in. However, more and more often I’ve been given very short deadlines to turn over the research, as short as 3-4 hours for a complicated question. Is this common

Looking to get some opinions on 2 offers.

1. Strategy role at a seed stage fintech startup (Series A next year)

2. Partnership role at a market research/data vendor.

I would be taking a 10 ~ 25% paycut if I join the first. But it is an area of business that I think is meaningful.

The second option pays about 50% more than the first. But isn’t the most “exciting” kind of industry/business.

I am 30, single with not much commitment. although im looking to put down a deposit for a house soon
