I’m not actively looking for other jobs, but wow is the market terrible right now. Most of the jobs posted are the same ones that have been up for months. I applied to a few that I’m pretty well qualified for and receiver rejections or was ghosted a few interviews in. Thoughts on where the market is going, do you anticipate a rise during the new year? Or, are in house roles slowly being phased out by AI contract management software?

I’ve heard and this seems accurate that many companies are now constantly “hiring” for in house roles for political or shareholder reasons. They want to seem like they are growing but really they aren’t actually looking to fill those roles.

Very frustrating but that’s at least some of why you are applying and getting ghosted I think.

The other part of it is in house roles have become extremely competitive especially since pandemic with the work/life balance movement. Less people want to be grinded to death in firms even if the money is great.

I’d like to leave my current in house role but I’ve also gained an appreciation for how coveted it is by many people. A lot of people would love to have the job I’ve grown tired of.

ai software needs a lawyer to manage and operate. the real issue is that alot of in house work (esp junior level contract review) is being off shored for cheap

A lot of companies are in explicit or soft hiring freezes due to economic uncertainty. This is driven in part by AI but the tariff uncertainty and general sense that things are in weird place economically (for lack of a more objective description) are also driving this.

My totally off the cuff guess is that this blob of uncertainty will be resolved by the end of 2026. And either people will stop worrying (and hiring increases) or the few that things are in fact bad will crystallize (hiring won’t increase but we’ll have a better sense of why the market is so bad.)

Got a temp offer for less than a year without promise of turning into full-time. Wanted to know what ppl think about temp jobs (looks bad on resume if I don't turn full-time later within the company?) and what comp should look like (e.g. 1.2× of regular comp?).

Got another perm offer in a different industry for similar salary, but I might have to relocate and I'm concerned the work may involve translation instead of pure legal work.
