Best way I’ve done it is to ask about the office… is every employee given a designated/permanent office space/cubical or is it more of a hoteling situation? Then ask about in person meeting expectations e.g., certain days of the week …etc. ideally you’ll work with or for the hiring manager and they can answer straight … if not, they will only be guessing
The thing about hybrid work is that it may not be flexible, in that companies may dictate which days are mandatory in-office. And there's nothing wrong with being demanding when inquiring about that. It's something that may have a definite answer, and it's entirely fair for candidates to know that.
I don't think there's anything wrong with asking flat out. It's an important question that has logistical implications and is a determining factor of whether or not you want the job. You can ask them how many days you'll be expected to be in the office versus at home.
