Is that me? Kidding but I easily get sensitive and insecure due to childhood experience. I recently started a new job. Lots of new things are happening - different location, industry, firm, people, etc. It took me over one month to settle into this new world and calm down. Maybe be supportive and give them some time.
If they revealed this to you, you must be on fairly good terms. Ask them to present a positive and/or solution after they present the negative. Also limit any conversational whining to ten minutes. Everyone will feel better. If you are even closer than this, suggest they start DBT therapy

Juat remember if you work hard at it you can change your spouse
