Drawn and quartered.
Why are you going to miss it? Were you on the bench? Did you have a break in service? We're your hours capped? Or did you just spend time on PRD instead of client work? That matters.
Yeah, I am charging to the NB code so I am getting utilization. My counselor insisted. I just feel bad bc it will reduce my PM's metrics and he has been an amazing advocate for me, but I do need the hours and there is a lot of work that actually needs to get done.
Sales wins. You're money. You don't even know it.
Are you the one asking for sharepoint advice in another post? :) Talk to the partners that you supported for the two month period. If they can't give you a code to charge, just make sure you account for the time you spent in your year end story. Make sure your project work + PRD adds up to close to 100% and that you have people to vouch for that time. The question will come up in year end as to why you missed, if your counselor can tell the story, you will be ok.
Good luck on winning the project, that will be the perfect thing to add to your year end story. You need to put that story above together for your counselor. Leave out the fun part! Also, don't feel bad about the NB code. Use whatever someone will give you.
Your counselor is wrong. Put the story together and give it to him. Add your hours up to get to 100% or more. The question will come up in YE meeting, if you didn't make your target, what hat you been doing - and your counselor needs to tell the story. I suggest finding a new counselor for next year.
So you're a C, what level is your counselor? What service line are you in? Happy to take this offline to see if I can help you with you year end story and maybe advice on salary.
OP - Email sent. Talk to you soon.
Depends on your level
Consultant. Like, 400 hours of impactful PRD. Ok, I can hit it if I really grind over the next few weeks. It's just Friday night, I'm doing Share Point, and I feel burnt out. Thanks for the honesty and encouragement, seriously
What's prd
Cuz that's like 5% off target which is kind of a lot of no good justification.
No break in service, no bench time, well, I was asked to do a very heavy lift on a proposal and no one else had the skill set. We just got our best and final offer letter today and it is a $25 million fed project. I got it- I'll grind it out. I switched career models in december so I had to squeeze a ton of non-billable requirements in between now and YE and then mix in the holidays. Ugh, this sucks, but whatever.
Talk to your project manager and see if they can make it up. They often have charge codes you could charge to. It's not ideal to have lower utilization
I do really appreciate your guys tough love. I need it. Also, it is complicated bc one of my charge codes ended, but there is still work to do. The whole thing is just complicated and exhausting
Apparently 70% of GM didn't hit their utilization last year and when I transferred into the model, I thought that I could catch my breathe. Trust me told, I killed my self for close to two years trying to get the model change. The mere time that was put into the bureaucracy to get the transfer was a utilization killer in itself. I'm really really happy that I made it though. The issue is that the people who went to bat for me for the transfer now want me to do this proposal work for them. There are just not enough hours in the day. I have cut back of 70% of it, but am still doing 30% bc I did not want to be shitty.
Seriously, thanks, guys! #digdeep #worshipsharepoint. So, I shouldn't feel so bad about the NB code?
Yeah? :) yeah, I literally flew to a different country with one days notice, recruited all of our staff, nailed down all of our teaming partners, set-up and met with several government offices, and then returned and wrote multiple sections of the proposal. To be honest, 1. It was fun, but 2. It was really hard to plan my time bc people would turn in their sections and the partner would ask me to re-write their sections. So there is like a two month period where I billed about 20 billable hours per week, but was doing 40-50 PRD hours. Anyways, def not bragging (I mean, I'm on Share Point on a Friday night for goodness sakes), but that is just part of the story or shall we say "story." Barf: Tell your story!
Haha yes, I am! Based off of this thread, I think that I am just going to do Share Point alllll weekend long. Well, I took you tip and added it up- including the PRD, my utilization would be 115%, no joke. My utilization last year was 104%. When I did the model change in December, when the Talent person I was talking to heard that it was 104% (mind you, with all of my PTO taken), she was like, I hope that someone told you to ease off! I was like, "no, they gave me more work to do." So, when I heard that in December, I was like, time to take some time for me. I sent Christmas cards, saw family, etc had a life for about a two week period. Now I feel like I am paying the price. Whatevs, it could be way worse. Thanks for the insight! Hopefully we will win the project!
