They are going to hire the cheapest person with the minimum qualifications for the role. If a person with 3 certifications can do the job, and they are cheaper than you, they will get it.
They have definitively proven that they are not willing to pay for top talent. The layoff was full of people who were incredible at their jobs, including people who routinely exceeded expectations, took on extra work, etc. But, if they were in the top x percentage of salaries in their pay grade, they were cut. There was no consideration as to whether or not their skill added enough value to be worth the additional cost. There was no consideration of impact to the customers. My AVP and RVP both assured me I would be safe if layoffs came as I was really good at my role (CSM) and deeply embedded in some critical activities w/ a number of enterprise customers. Less than one month later, I was in the first big round in Jan '23.
Now that they proven that meritocracy, trust, etc are no more that buzzwords, Salesforce is seeing the talent drain of top resources leaving on their own. I have been amazed watching my LinkedIn feed of really top notch talent bailing out since bonuses were paid.
I agree that Salesforce laid off a lot of talented people. However, the people making the hiring decisions now are not the same as the people who made the layoff decisions. I’ve never met a hiring manager who chooses the cheap candidate over the best candidate for the role.
If you're qualified technically, maybe they don't want to pay you for your experience. Also, they have to post even though they have an internal candidate. Have you been able to speak with someone outside of your referrals?
Yes. I know, in my firm, referrals are out of our loop of communication to avoid conflicts of concerns. We can check progress on the application but that's it.
Hiring has slowed a little with the economy and competition for roles is fierce. It’s still a good role to get 200k OTE and is essential since Salesforce’s products are increasingly complex. I would keep trying to apply maybe in a quarter or two if hiring picks up. Your resume sounds good to me, honestly. They may have just had to prioritize an internal hire or someone who was laid off last year.
