You prove you can do the job and then ask for the raise.
It’s a learning opportunity which most people would be happy to do. Why don’t you do the job for like 6 months to a year, plant the seed to your manager in a 1-1 at least a couple months before performance review and then bring it up at that time
Agreed
If they brought you in to ultimately do that job, then they should pay you for the job you’re going to do. Of course you won’t make what your predecessor is making, since they have so much more experience overall and in that role. But it’s not a charity (unless it is?) and they should pay for what they’re getting.
Are you doing additional responsibilities that you were hired to do or are you doing that you were hired to do independently earlier then expected? If it’s a promotion then you should ask for a raise but if it is what you were hired to do not sure a raise makes sense.
Something sounds off as I’ve never heard of a 2 year training program in accounting. Most companies won’t hire you unless you are able to do the job. I mean most CEO/ CFO level transitions are no where near this long.
Demonstrate you can do the new role for a period of time, say 6 months to a year, then request a formal review. The money should come with the positive review.
