So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Auto sales are already volatile, and now this? If tariffs jack up prices on imported parts, even domestically assembled cars are going to get more expensive. I'm as nervous as you are.
I think you're right, the chaos from tariffs will become a major issue across the economy. And it just doesn't affect specific sectors, it can spread all over. I've seen people say it's like a pinball machine, you don't really know what might get hit next. If the tariffs with Canada and Mexico go into effect next month, it's hard to know what sectors could benefit. Auto plants laying off workers, for instance, could affect every other business in their locality.
We’ve already been dealing with a lot of poor economics, seems like everyone forgot about how high prices are already without anything in place. People are already making less because money is staying at the tip top of businesses. Going forward I would just keep my eyes open and if a good opportunity comes up, take it.
Tariffs used properly have yielded excellent results in the past. Toyota moved their manufacturing to avoid tariffs and now show massive sales and growth in the US market. Tariffs on Mexico resulted in immediate drops in illegal drugs and illegal migration at the border, both of which can pull down local and national economies which are not prepared.
Remember that Mexico, Canada and China make up about 40 percent of US trade, so adjusting how that trade benefits the country via tariffs can and has had a positive impact.
Don’t hyper focus on vehicle tariffs alone. The average income for the middle class and upper middle class made and spent more money during the Trump years than they did during Bidens and they will again. With us Americans, more money in the pocket is all that matters. A more expensive vehicle or service does not matter… if we want it and it’s available, we will buy it.
