I’m the only black person in my group at work (about 200 people). I’m really trying to connect and interact with coworkers. For some reason, the white people get so uncomfortable when I try talk to them until another white person comes along and they just start talking by themselves. When I’m talking to them they avoid eye contact and just seem so uncomfortable. Could be just talking about the event we’re all attending. It happened today at work and now I feel alone. Am I doing something wrong??

do you cover your tattoos for client meetings? i already had tattoos but were easy to hide on camera, i now have a pretty full sleeve (all visible on camera) and not sure if i should cover them (wearing long sleeve top or cardigan) or just live my best life?

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. There is also another surgical coordinator however I have come to find from other staff that there is a long history of her running other staff away and not fully training other surgical coordinator staff properly. How do you deal with clients who act like they know more than you even though they don't?

The hostility on my team is rough. We have a yeller. I walked by her room the other day. She was screaming across the room at a student, "you have to be kind to get kindness." Seriously, those were her words in a loud, berating, angry tone. Our admin has asked that we not report these. We are to talk to the teacher. She has yelled at me and other adults. Admin has to know she treats the kids this way too. One teacher has to work with her door closed to not hear the yelling all day.

My only concern is the hiring manager. I talked to someone in my network who has worked with him in the past and she told me that she would 100% work with him again bc she learned a lot, but that he has a very dominant personality and that some ppl can butt heads with him.

How do you deal with a Midlevel who tells the partner you’ll cover for them, but gives you less than 24 hours notice they’ll be gone without asking if you can cover? I helped out back on July on a deal with they were on vacation, and now every vacation since they keep adding me back on without keeping me appraised of the deal in the interim

Have you tried encouraging cards highlighting their strengths? When’s the last time you said “Thank you” out loud to everyone in front of everyone? Bought lunch? Participated in a team building event? Encourage a team atmosphere and keep the lines of communication open. Just my thoughts

What are effective ways to ensure your team feels content within the workplace? There is a rise of many people feeling undervalued and not cared for as an employee. I would like to change that. No matter the job, no one should feel less than.

What is with people not knowing how to read signs? We have a huge one that says “NO CASH ALLOWED” and I still get asked almost everyday if we take cash
