Part of the reason I am moving into an internal role is because I want a little more WLB and a more chill job. Husband and I are going to start trying to have kids in a year so I don’t want to be super stressed due to work. But I am a perfectionist and I’m wondering if the hiring manager might be too difficult to work with though and I’ll have an issue saying “no”
On Monday, I’m talking to 1 more person on the team I’d be on to get a sense of the team but idk how transparent they’d be. I’m also going to chat with the HM once more to let him know I’m looking for a little more chill than consulting.
What would you all do in my position? Anything else you would ask the team / hiring manager?
Meet the hiring manager and trust your gut on whether or not you would work well together. Especially in industry this is the single most important relationship you have
Without a lot of context on the specific role, I would want to understand career progression (I know you mention potentially building a team but I have been duped in the past and was a one woman show for 3 years). Also the types of projects you would be working on hopefully would give you a sense of whether you’d be working more or less than you are today
If you are not serving clients, your job will always be tenuous at GT. Which is ok as long as you have a Plan B in place. Get good experience, work with people you like and enjoy the job. And keep your options open!
