It’s not likely at all re: going from $135 to $175. If your pay is that low already, your current company will never pay you what it should. Raises that large just don’t happen unless you change companies. Promotion won’t bridge the gap, and why would you want to stay for promotion at a job that underpays that much?
For reference, I’m a 7th year, $225k base, 25% bonus. I’ll probably get bumped up a bit over $230k base in the new year and will get my first equity grant of around 25% probably. I made $185k base with 20% bonus when I went in house as a 4th year in 2023 at my last company.
Basically zilch, but considering you only work 15 hours a week for 135k it seems like your comp isn’t too bad lol
I’ve staying because I work about 15 hours per week and have made money doing other things. Relative to hours worked, it’s great pay. Also I don’t have law firm experience. I have been in house since the beginning
I’m surprised they haven’t laid op off already considering they could easily just hire fractional counsel for 15 hours a week and pay hourly. Sounds like a dream!

It’s been time for a new job for some time. Unless you’re in a VVLCOL area, you’ve been getting the shaft
Rising Star
I also have never been in a firm. I made $135k base as a 1st year straight out of law school. MCOL.
Was probably a good salary several years ago when you were still a junior, but you’re not Junior anymore.
What else are you doing to get your total income to $300k? Seems you’re only around $150k from this job.
Do you have any precedent for the raise+promotion, or have you had an exceptionally successful year that youve documented as cause for a dramatic promotion? Otherwise I doubt your company will do much more than laugh your request out of the office
Good luck OP, but if your company has been underpaying for you for years, I doubt they'll substantially change things now
Be happy the majority of Americans are not making 135k and thousands would apply to your job willing to take 90k if you quit.

r u remotr
I wouldn’t take it for granted being remote since you have the ability to move to a cheaper state and keep your income with you when you do. I’ve been trying to land a fully remote legal job going on 2 years now. I am stuck in a HCOL state and won’t be able to buy a house until I move out of here. Tied to husbands in person job at the moment, but it’s not enough for both of us to live on.
