In my department at work, we have always taken turns working on the holidays and been pretty flexible. Well, we’re really understaffed this year and several new employees are young parents. So, I offered to cover Thanksgiving and Christmas to help them out. But now I’m feeling super resentful. Any tips on getting through the next month without shooting daggers at them?

That was super, super kind of you. I'd imagine they're very grateful (or they should be..) for this gesture and focus on the fact that you allowed a new family to be together on the holidays. It'll all come back around.

Thank you, that's encouraging. I'm feeling a little bit better today, but I'm going to hold on to these words of encouragement over the next few weeks.

I hope you at least bagged the New Years off to compensate for the other holidays you missed. That's really unfortunate but at least you were able to make a family happy by giving them time to be together. It will all pay off soon enough.

Came here to say this. Def schedule some extra down time for yourself coming up so you have something to look forward to. If not NYE specifically, sometime in January seems key.
You can be proud that you offered such a kindness for others

Can you get any other days off to compensate as an alternative? You can also request to be off next Thanksgiving/Christmas.

That's a good idea! I think I've learned that it's not good for me to work both. Obviously--it makes me feel all ragey. I'm going to make sure I at least have one off next year. It'll make me a better person to work with.

I think being understaffed shouldn't be an employee problem. If the company is understaffed, they should take ownership of that and hire some temporary employees.

smart

That would be really nice. When we have gotten temps, they don't want to work. They will sit around for half the day and call in frequently, leaving other people to still have to carry their weight.

I mean, you did volunteer....Karma will repay you. They know they owe you next year or if anything comes up for you before then.

That's true... thanks!

Make sure you have New Year's eve to celebrate with your family. Look forward to having to spend the last day of the year with family instead of resenting your coworkers.

Call dibs on New Year's Eve so you won't feel too bitter towards them. At least this time they know they have to return the favor. I think they couldn't reject your request for a time off on New Years.

Transferred some stock in kind from one brokerage to another but noticed that each transferred stock appears to be bought at the current price on the day of the transfer (eg. if avg price of my TSLA stock was $500 before transferring now it’s showing $620). Am I missing something or did I just lose all my unrealized gains by transferring?
