In my experience as an RN, LPN, and CNA my best advice is to always negotiate salary, benefits, and sign on bonuses. When I finished my RN last year, I applied to a local hospital that offered my $34/hr, I countered with $40/hr and they met me at $38/hr. A classmate accepted $32/hr! I feel that they took advantage of her (she is a new resident of the US).

Welcome to America. Live and learn. But because you took more pay they have to find others who will take the offer at a lower salary. For you, welcome to capitalism. You get paid more because of knowledge or experience. Quit feeling offended for others and be thankful you both have jobs in a free economy. You can always move on if you don't like it.

Always try to negotiate when you can, if salary is not on the table, I do try to focus on benefits and those other types of perks. I didn’t know that starting out and learned lessons the hard way. You need to be your own advocate, companies will not do it for you.

$40/hour is kinda on the low side for medical... Medical techs are getting that.

I think this holds true across positions and industries. There's almost always some wiggle room. It's on you as a candidate to determine how much and maximize your TC.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

I renegotiated my start date and it’s different from the date I signed on the offer letter. Do I need to request a revised offer letter or is the email thread with the recruiter sufficient. By the way, my background check is already in progress.

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
