So I was at a dinner with my MBA classmates, one an H1B, one a white American (slightly right of centre in terms of politics) and im a green card holder, the conversation got really awkward when my H1B pal starts ranting about how oppressive the H1B system and how it shows how racist the US is, the white dude held it in for a while and then said, you knew the rules before you came here, why didn’t you go to Canada or Europe. At this point both of them looked to me to intervene.

Has anyone experienced difficulties with speech/thinking through taking anti-depressants or from suffering with long term depression? I first started noticing difficulties in articulating my thoughts at university and my career in consulting has only made this more prominent. I feel embarrassed, really depressed and incompetent because of this. This is one of the greatest anxieties I have regarding my performance and I find it is really effecting my development.

Key positives for my current employer are pay and security. But my new role within the company isn't working for me, and ultimately I don't think it is for the company either.

A much much smaller (20 people) company offered me a role.

I’m up for a promotion at work and I have no idea how much to ask for since it’s not a standard position. Currently I’m a team lead and manage about 8 technicians, my promotion will be to a regional service delivery manager, and I will be managing over 30 in 3 locations. I went from a tier 1 engineer in managed servers to team lead with about a 10k increase in salary.I’m thinking about a 15k increase this time from 65k to 80k. Question to immigrants with parents overseas.
