Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Depends. Masters can provide an official validation of the requisite knowledge. Lends credibility. The boot camp may not provide as much knowledge or validation. As far as learning is concerned, you could learn the skills on your on in your own time if your not seeking validation of your acquired skills.
I got into data analytics via a masters since for me that was an easier pivot. Whether it works for you or not is your decision depending on your goals. You could work in the field without the degree too so long as you can land a role. The masters can provide an anchor for you find a role, perhaps easier than without one. If you can network you way into a job then you may not need the masters
What’s your experience level in this area? Any SQL or python? Any tools like power bi or tableau?
I have the same goal and I am currently pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in Data Analytics.
Me too! I was thrilled when I saw UWF offered it. 😊
Build a website using free data and r shiny or something similar. That’s how I impressed some big4 folks and they hired me on the spot
I’m considering the masters in analytics and management at LBS and hope it will allow me to get into a more strategic role right away, skipping over the solely executive data scientist roles.
But if anyone has a perspective on this please share!
I worked at a startup after a bootcamp it was enough experience to get hired. Its all about experience in my opinion. Everyone does the same thing. Data warehousing and data analysis, do you have experience doing either in a business environment
Everything is free. Learnings at: data camp, MIT, Harvard, khan academy, coursera, kdnuggets, udacity, etc. I don’t care if you have a doctorate or no high school degree. If you can implement clustering, pca, build a front end, know ML ops, write DRY code, etc… then what difference does It really make. Math is math, data structure are data structures, ML is ML. Learn it, do it, repeat and people will slowly not care who taught you. This coming from someone who did a boot camp and the learned what I needed from the above resources.
And some O’Reilly books never hurt.
Prove you know it and the rest will fall into place.
