One note of caution - bridal makeup (and hair honestly) are a bit different than normal event makeup. It has to last for over 8hours and it has to look good on camera which can really wash you out. If you are really talented with makeup and want to do your own I would make sure you do a bit more wedding specific research into what needs to be done differently (kinda like what you are doing with this post!)
Unless you’re very skilled, do your own makeup daily, know exactly how you want to look, I wouldn’t.
My considerations were that they’re high quality professional photos that will be printed or looked at for the rest of your life. I also didn’t want stress on myself to make it look absolutely right. I figured a professional can hit the brief much better than I can.
I’m going to but we’re having a very low key wedding and I hate wearing makeup and don’t want to be uncomfortable all day. I’m only wearing mascara, tinted moisturizer, and chapstick. I’m basically going to wear exactly what I wear to work which lasts all day. My fiancé is going to be in the same photos as me and won’t be wearing makeup so I guess we’ll both be washed out in our photos.
Yeah so context is we’re doing a low key 35 person wedding and I have sensitive / dry skin so I hate heavy makeup cause it makes my skin look flakey. And also it costs so much. I have specific makeup looks that I like a lot and I think I’m good at. And I was planning on getting specific tutorials on other parts of the overall look I’m not good at (I.e. lipstick) and also get lash extensions. I frankly just don’t really trust that I’ll look good in heavy face makeup and that a MUA will understand that. Idk
OP you can definitely have the minimal makeup look done professionally. A good MUA will take you’re skin type into consideration and also ensure that you’re well moisturized. As others have mentioned, makeup for professional photos is significantly different from everyday makeup, you also want the makeup to last all day. No pressure at all but I recently got married and can see the difference between photos from pre-wedding events where I did my makeup myself vs. wedding where I had my makeup professionally done 😊
I had the same debate and settled on doing my own makeup because I want to feel like myself. I should add - we are eloping! Totally hear peoples thoughts on needing your look to last all day if you’re doing a bigger event. If you don’t usually wear a ton of makeup though (me), I was worried about feeling uncomfortable and looking too done up, which isn’t how I want to feel on my special day! I say do whatever makes you feel like the best version of you! :)

I did my own for my small legal wedding and I’m going to get a professional for my big wedding with a long party where I don’t want my makeup falling off
I want to do my own hair. I have never liked my hair or makeup when done professionally, but I’m not that good at makeup. I’m planning on doing my first trial early so that I can do 1-2 more if needed.
I did - got married in India, I’m white, tired three make up artists there and I ended up doing better. I took a professional make up lesson at MAC with a make up artist, used my own products for the most part with a few additions from him (primer, some make up colors) and I ended up with great outcome and great pictures. I took religious notes and videos during the session. This was a while ago but I think it was $90 and I also got 25% off products I bought that day. For my other wedding where I had a make up artist I regretted not doing my own again…following the instructions from the lesson.
