Interested in switching into data science. Would love some insight on what would be better - a masters or a boot camp. Any guidance would be appreciated!!

Depends on background. If you have sufficient depth in statistics - then boot camp may be the way to go.

If statistics (modelling, inference, simulation, etc) is a black art, then I would suggest a master’s. Especially if it can be combined with something on the computational side.

Tips for transitioning to privacy counsel/compliance? I’m a former L&T attorney looking to make a switch (preferably in house at a FinTech). Just passed the CIPP/US, but haven’t seen much of a response from companies or recruiters. Also, if anyone has a recruiter they would recommend, I’d be very interested!

Is it too late to switch from QA to dev ? I have 3 yoe.

Hi Fishes, I need help in understanding hierarchy structure in Wells Fargo
What is BSC 3? What is it equivalent to in other companies in general?

Calling all consultants, implementation specialists etc. How do I make the switch?

I have been in HR for 11+ years with experience in company big in small and gone through an IPO and acquisitions on both sides. I've built HR department from scratch and I'm finding I love implementing foundational programs and systems, especially hris. How do I move to a consulting type role (either traditional consulting or working for a company with a consulting service)?

Hi all, looking to career pivot from retail to talent acquisition/recruiting. Trying to make myself stand out to make up for my lack of experience. Some roles I am interested in prefer PHR or SHRM certifications. Would it be worth it to pursue a certification to land a position? Thank you

Best advice for someone with 2 years of consulting experience (no other experience) finally exiting into industry?

How do I become an independent engineering consultant? I’m a bit tired of my current job and it sounds like a more exciting path to explore

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Looking to specialize in privacy and was considering getting the CIPP/CIPM/CIPT. I already have my CISSP and CISA. Is it worth it?

I truly wish I had chosen a different career path. To lose my passion for the only thing I’ve ever truly loved or excelled at (writing) is heartbreaking. I think maybe I should have been an accountant and written on the side.

Hi All,
I wish to join one of the top consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, B&C etc. I am currently working as a Business Analyst with a work ex of 3 years.
I have started exploring on my own and one thing that came out different were Case Studies interviews and I have started reading and preparing for them.
I will do MBA also post working in one of these firms.
I was hoping if anyone can help me to prepare better or suggest a plan to land a job for a role that aligns with my ambitions.
Thank You

If I have no experience in finance. But know a lot from school and my individual research on IB. with a 3.2 as a junior. what are the chances of me landing an internship or even landing a job in the banking industry by the time I graduate. It has been my dream job since I graduated but seems impossible to get in with out any experience?

Hey folks. 3 YOE, working in tech at a great company, and making 135K TC in Austin.

Have an admit at Columbia and received 30K in aid each year, so I anticipate paying 110K in tuition. With cost of living in upper Manhattan, estimating an additional 35K each year, so 180K total cost.

I want to stay in tech post MBA, but explore faang companies and product roles. Is this worth the cost? I figure I could make a jump in comp at least?

I’m not being trained much on my new entry level business/data analyst position so I’d like to do an online course /certification - maybe sql, python, powerbi, etc. There’s so many courses online though I don’t know which to pick. Any recommendations? Which look the best on cv? Preferably for free/cheap pls

Looking to finally go get my SPHR having the PHR for the past 6 years. Still value and pursuing and obtaining?

Currently studying for the DP-100 exam. Any tips/tricks for studying? I'm currently using the MeasureUp practice test, taking a Udemy course, and looking through the self paced study material.

MeasureUp: a lot of really obscure questions and the documentation references aren't great.

Udemy & Self-Paced Doumentation: very high level and the practice questions are too easy. I could answer most without following the material.

Also, there isn't a lot of overlap between the study materials.

Just curious how many interviews did you go on before landing a job? Iv already had 5 different interviews where I make it to the final rounds and they just say they are going a different direction with someone with more experience. I have one that I’m waiting back to hear from and have a second round with Amazon. If I don’t get these I’m debating on if I should read/study leadership books to try and change my approach when answering these questions.

Guys, can anyone advise how many rounds and the process to recruit a lateral hire ! I already completed 2 rounds and 3rd round is further scheduled. Does it mean I qualified in previous 2 rounds or they will evaluate at last moment post all 3 rounds's result basis.. suggest since many rounds create an expectation.. skill set - Azure, yoe - 15+

Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Thank you for your time!

Which company to join?

I have two offers in hand at the moment -

1. 16 LPA ( fixed + performance) from Groww for the role of business analyst

2. 14.5 LPA (fixed + performance) from Mckinsey for the position of Junior Data Analyst.

PS: This is my first career switch after working with ZS as a Business Technology analyst associate for 1 year and 8 months. Also, I joined ZS as a fresher in 2020.

Please advise which one I should take and why?

I’ve spent 4 years in Big 4, with about half that time in FDD. I feel like Corp Dev is what I ultimately want, but am wondering if a stint in banking could be worth it. If I’m not interested in PE or other buyside alternatives, is the pit stop in IB worth it?
Mainly wonder if IB is a must have box to check, or if you can work your way up the ladder without.

I've heard a couple of things about how the partner pension amount @ PwC is determined, both similar in approach.

Both calculations I have heard of result in an annuity paid until death, at which point a surviving spouse (if any) receives the annuity.

The first calculation I have heard is that you get 80% of your highest earning year as a partner (e.g. If your best year was $1M, you'd get $800k as an annuity).

The second calculation I have heard is that they look at your three highest earning years as a partner, and take the second highest and you get 100% of that. (e.g if your three highest earning years were $1M, $800k, and $1.2M, you'd receive $1M as an annuity).

Is ANY of this true, or just all rumor? Any PwC partners that can chime in and explain the pension plan fact for fact? Perhaps with sample numbers?

I got asked today if I would prefer to do more data visualization work through Qlik and be more client facing. Or continue to work on database/pipeline and SQL work. My question is what would be best for professional development if I want to eventually work my way up from a Data Analyst to a Data Scientist? I'm leaning towards more SQL work...

Hi everyone,
I was working on a function app based on Azure. I am facing an issue while run/test code in function app: internal server error 500. When I checked the logs, it showed Rpc Exception for Microsoft Azure Webjobs Script Workers. Not sure how to make the function app work again. Is it also related to the registered app with Microsoft graph Api which have delegated permissions? Struggling to find a solution.

Anyone out here?

Hi, can anyone say something about IAS (Integral Ad Science) as a company? How is it working on the Data Science team? What is the work-life-balance like? Career development?

Graduating with PhD in comp neuro next year. I just did a week long internship at MBB to check out consulting, which I loved but ultimately will not be accepting my offer for life considerations (my wife also works at MBB and we have young children). It was amazing getting a sense of what the work actually comprises.

Are there any similar day-long or week-long internship programs for data science? Would love to test it out for a little bit to see what I like/dislike.

To my fellow Chicago Data Scientists, I’m trying to understand the market rate for a Sr. Data Scientist position atm. I was going to ask $140k-$150K for a base based on what I’ve seen on LinkedIn. That too low? Too high? Thanks in advance!
