Naming is critical…

Hello! I am looking for two new Texas teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy
If you have any questions feel free to email me at stephanie_asselin1@baylor.edu.
Best,
Stephanie Asselin

This is exactly why we must teach HISTORY. I don’t know what these people ARE thinking, but it is clear what they WERE thinking. Are they maybe trying to repeat bad history by denying that it ever happened?
I don’t think you can show that (especially in CA) civil rights history is avoided. Can more be done? Of course snd and centering the evils perpetrated against indigenous and Blacks are brought in all units of study. On a related note -what I’ve noticed (and maybe why there is pushback) is that both in PD for ethnic studies and in the high school history classroom there is a denigration of the tradition of nonviolence movement under MLK end the glorification of those who advocate black nationalism and violence. Is this because students have already been taught about MLK and read his Letter from a Birmingham jail in earlier grades ? It appears there is a movement in the direction to see civil rights with militant tactics and violence as the corrected way to view black liberation using the methods of the Black Panthers as means to the end. There is nothing passive about MLK, Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, Ella Baker, Bob Moses etc. and it seems the narrative is being re-written to say as much. Thoughts ? Is the Black Freedom movement of the 1950 and 1960s of MLK being taught as racial accommodation as expressed by the Black Panthers ?
This is TRUTH. OWN what you said. Did. Believed. HOPE that you have Grown.
