What’s your target retirement number and at what age do you plan to retire?
Of course I know it depends on a wide range of factors, but I’m curious to get a sample from this group.
Mine is $5M at 55.

My goalposts keep moving after we hit them….We’ve been financially ready to retire for over a decade but can’t seem to get off the gerbil wheel. Retirement is way more about things that have nothing to do with money. E.g. having something to do (because your job meant having no outside of work hobbies), having your self worth tied up nearly completely in your identity at work, the social capital that comes from your work title, etc. retiring is hard.

Mine is probably around 5M at 60. I would be fine with less but have no plan to work past 60. So really it is probably more accurate to say retire at 60 with whatever I have.

I plan to reevaluate at $10mm, $15mm, $25mm and, if I get there, $100mm. No plan to retire at a set age, I’ll keep doing it as long as I’m enjoying it.

Edit: Currently in early 30s and expect to hit the $10mm mark at ~37.

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

Best place to get pre-qualified for a mortgage?

I have some collections on my credit report. One from an electric company for $800 (imo they violated terms of contract and sent me to collections in spite of their fuck up), and an apartment for $80~ that charged me a cleaning fee when my apartment was spotless.

Despite these two collections have a 712-720 credit score.

So mortgage lenders care at all about the collections or is it mostly the credit score that matters?
