Rising Star
I am in a place where I am succeeding. But I think it would be a gross mischaracterization to say I am enjoying my job.
Can you elaborate on succeeding. And what makes it that you aren’t enjoying
I am. I’m a remote partner. My team is great and self sufficient. My comp is very generous.
My clients are all over the country so I wouldn’t see them anyway. I go to events. Just don’t have to deal with the office. I work about 45 hours a week. It sucks getting to partner but then you can kind of coast.
I definitely feel this way. I have been at my current company for over 6 years (almost 7 if you include my internship). They, and now I do as a manager, teach and help each other learn what works best for us and how to set healthy boundaries. I got promoted to manager about 20 months ago and Im amazed at how much I have continued to grow personally, professionally and technically - in that order. I work fully remote, and have been since 2020, so I have more time to spend with my family and friends. It’s actually my birthday weekend this weekend and I’ll be out tomorrow night, and Sunday morning and NO BODY CARES that I’m not available 24/7. This is certainly something I had to learn how to do, but I most definitely did not figure it out on my own. I work in middle market, but I have a huge mix of clients and do a lot of different types of tax. I’m learning a lot about a lot, and I feel supported by my higher ups. I was the “yes man” as an associate, but learned quickly I don’t HAVE to say “NO”, but to be realistic with myself and others. Sometimes the answer is “yes, but I can’t do it today” or “I would but I already promised XYZ to all these other people”. I also love that I get to coach the new interns/associates/seniors/managers on how I’ve found success and to help them find their own! If you happen to be in Houston TX, feel free to reach out! I’d love to chat and/or make a new connection. Good luck!
Will definitely PM
Yes I am with a firm that is very generous in pay and bonus, and the workload is very low, a little bit busier during busy time but I have never done more than 25 hours a week. Almost fully remote as I come in when I want. The team is also supportive and very flexible on work hours.
That is perfect! Really helpful and insightful. Happy to hear people are still able to find jobs like that!
